Vacate Cleaning Checklist for Perth Rentals

A vacate clean means leaving an empty rental clean top to bottom: inside cupboards and wardrobes, the oven, bathrooms, skirting boards, window tracks and floors. Use this checklist room by room, and compare the property with your ingoing condition report before you finish.

Before you start

• Get your ingoing property condition report. It records how the home looked when you moved in.
• Read your lease for cleaning clauses, especially for carpets and the oven.
• Remove all belongings and rubbish first. You can't clean cupboards and wardrobes properly while they're full.
• Keep the power and water on until you've finished.

Kitchen

• Inside and outside of every cupboard and drawer, wiped out and dry
• Benchtops, sink and taps, with the sink polished
• Splashback and the wall behind the stove
• Range hood and filter (degrease it)
• Oven: racks, walls, base and door glass
• Fridge, if it stays: wipe the inside and seals, and leave the door ajar
• Dishwasher: filter and seals

Bathrooms and toilets

• Shower screen, tiles and grout scrubbed, with soap scum removed
• Bath, basin and taps with limescale removed
• Toilet inside and out, including behind the seat and around the base
• Mirrors, cabinets and drawers, inside and out
• Exhaust fan cover wiped
• Floor drains cleared and floors washed

Bedrooms and living areas

• Inside wardrobes and built-ins, with shelves and rails wiped
• Skirting boards, door frames, doors and handles
• Light switches and power points (wipe, don't spray)
• Light fittings and ceiling fans dusted
• Window sills and tracks vacuumed and wiped
• Blinds dusted or wiped, and marks removed from walls where they come off

Floors

Vacuum every room and the edges, then mop hard floors last, working toward the door. If your lease asks for professional carpet cleaning, book it after the rest is done and keep the receipt.

Outside areas

• Balcony or patio swept
• Garage or shed emptied and swept, if it's part of the lease
• Letterbox and entry cleared

Final walk-through

Check each room against your ingoing condition report in good daylight, with the lights off and on. Take dated photos of every room, so you have a record of the condition you left it in.
