Clear clutter from floors and surfaces, put away valuables, secure pets, leave access details and tell your cleaner about anything delicate. You don't need to clean beforehand. The more surfaces are clear, the more of the time goes on actual cleaning.
The night before
- Pick up toys, clothes and papers from floors and benchtops
- Put away valuables, jewellery and personal documents
- Run the dishwasher and clear the sink if you can
- Empty the bins
Tell your cleaner
- How to get in: key, lockbox, building access or alarm
- Parking or visitor-bay details
- Pets in the home
- Surfaces that are delicate, such as natural stone, timber or antiques
- Areas that need extra attention
What not to do
- Don't pre-clean. That's the job
- Don't leave dishes in the sink or washing on the floor
- Don't leave valuables where they could be knocked
Do you need to be home?
No. Many people leave access details and go to work. If you're home, that's fine too.
Deep clean extras
